Caley Price & Joanna Harmon
"When I first heard about I Art You I knew I needed to participate. What a wonderful idea! It's such a great way to find other artists and connect in a way we most likely never would.
My new friend is Joanna. She is a mom and a creator. I chose to paint a selfie she sent me because I wanted to capture her natural beauty just right. Through our email correspondence Joanna inspired me to step outside my boundaries and try something different. She expressed that when her littlest starts school she would love to explore abstract ideas, or just free painting like kids do. I normally paint little portraits of people, so painting a watercolor of her definitely had me stepping out of my comfort zone. I love the way it turned out, I loved getting to know my new friend, and I loved participating in something so creative! Thank you!"
Portrait of Joanna Harmon By Caley Price
"I learned that Caley is a small town California girl whose creativity was influenced much by her summers at the beach and outdoors and "finding something constructive to do."
She was inspired to continue her Art because of her high school art teacher. She was encouraged by a couple friends (and pretty much her whole family) to do something with her art. For years she would gift things they always made people so happy. Finally, She decided to open a shop on instagram because she was at a point in her life where she needed to be happy, and making others happy made her happy! Her friends helped her open it, and her family has been so supportive.
Caley said while I interviewed that, "As far as art goes, I like to paint anything. People, places, nature, animals. But my favorite style is probably impressionism. So, I like to paint anything as long as it's impressionistic. I always have to set aside an hour or 2 for each portrait, so sometimes its hard to find time in the day. But usually customers will send me pictures of their families and tell me ideas they have for their portrait, and I'll spend a few days thinking about it before I actually create it. This is one reason it takes 2-3 weeks for me to complete one. I spend a week creating it in my mind first."
Caley is a vibrant, thoughtful, self-made person. And that is what is portrayed in this portrait."
