Laura Lucy F. & Brenda Stearns
"When I first heard about the I ART YOU project, I immediately became excited. It sounded like such an enchanting way to use social media and connect artists, who might not have otherwise crossed paths. I love how the project embraces diversity, as well; there is such a large variety of mediums used and no guidelines on how the artist should portray their match.
I absolutely enjoyed working with Brenda. It was so great to get to know her and try to infuse her personality into my style of painting. The painting I did of Brenda is in oils. I wanted to recreate her natural beauty and pair it with her love of floral accents (this was easy to do, since I incorporate plants/flowers into my paintings already). I chose to paint her profile because I felt like it best embodied her strength and I chose to use soft colours to accent her dark hair and highlight her gentleness and compassion. The leafy crown has a bit of pink woven into it to maintain that softness throughout. Overall, I feel like this painting captures Brenda completely; she is a super mom, a talented and creative woman, and a sweet human."

"I had so much fun creating a custom doll to resemble my I ART YOU partner. Laura is a lovely individual. She is a child at play who is constantly seeking for beauty in the most random places. Her sense of beauty reaches far beyond what most can see. She has all sorts of amazing gifts and talents and I absolutely adore that she shares them with the world around her. She has motivated me to find inspiration from the simplest things in life. Laura recently opened an etsy shop with some wonderful embroidered pieces!
I normally don't create dolls with eyebrows, but the minute I saw a photo of Laura I knew her doll must have eyebrows. Laura's facial features define perfectly who she is as a unique individual. I found so much inspiration from her Instagram account and there were many many things I wanted to incorporate into this project.
The doll is approximately 17" tall, she has buttoned arms for better range of motion, her facial features are embroidered by hand, her hair was hand stitched, and all clothing items and accessories can be removed.
Although a handmade item, the doll is made to be loved and play with, but she wouldn't mind looking gorgeous sitting on a shelf as well!!
I have enjoyed getting to know Laura as a fellow artist/maker and I am looking forward to continuing our friendship as we encourage and inspire each other to create!"
